Membership News

March 2008

Many members missed an informative and fun meeting with our Yoga instructor last month.
Those who were there enjoyed this participation workshop. I hear that meeting participation
is down in a lot of different clubs. The weather is getting nicer and I hope to see more of
our membership at future meetings. Our next meeting on March 19th will feature a special
presentation from Harold Schwab of the Second Wind running store. Harold will talk
about the latest technology concerning running shoes and socks. His presentations are
always informative and interesting. You won’t want to miss this!

Betty and Fred Horstmann recently returned from a month in sunny Florida. Betty ran and
placed first in her age group at the Fort Lauderdale Half Marathon. Proving that it is a small
world she ran into fellow BTC member, Joe Lazzaro, at the race.

Estella Clasen competed in the New York Dance Festival last month and competed Pro-Am
in the American Latin division. She had her best showing placing in all her dances with
eight firsts and four-second place finishes. Photos from that competition are posted at
www.dancecitypatchogue.com. Estella had her foot operated on three days after the
competition. She looks forward to getting back to walking and dancing.

Please welcome our newest members, Caryn Eldridge, Rich Bianchi, Kate and Jim Nostrom,
Debbie Cuttitta, Kathy and Bill Fodor, and Jonathan Zuckerman.

CONGRATULATIONS to Joe Cordero, who scored second in the 65-69 age group in the
Masters 8 Kilometer National Championship! Also to Pat Delaney who ran the Empire State
Building Run Up on February 5 and placed first 65-69 in 22:09.

The Millrose Relay

By Joe Cordero, February 2, 2008

Torren tapes the torrid race

What a wonderful fast pace

KITTY chasing ATHENA and SHORE

This race is never a bore

KATHY running like a deer

CARYL Senn is without peer

DEBBIE anchors the valiant team

All aglow with a wonderful beam

Proud and strong they bravely ran

Can they do it, yes they can

Tomorrow is another day

Tomorrow we will laugh and play

Sharper and stronger they will be

Next year, experienced they will see

How much faster they shall flee

In front of competitors, with glee

Golden Moment, Golden Dream

We now have a special team

Who will excel in their endeavor

Will they quit?  Never!

Hearts of Champions, focused with desire

They will run again, with FIRE!
