That was the presentation made at our last meeting.  At the upcoming meeting, the awards will be on display again and available for pick up.

Now, it is time to start thinking about the new season.  I know how difficult that is when the bitter cold and snow keeps you indoors.  The grand prix will begin in March with the Little Cow Harbor race.  This year there is going to be some major changes in the grand prix.  For one thing, the major sponsor VYTRA has bailed out and at the last minute.  So LITF is left without a sponsor for 2005.  It is a great series and certainly with all the races from Nassau to Eastern Suffolk it would give great exposure to a company or business.  The problem is to find a company or business willing to support long distance running and the concept of the grand prix and give the money to LITF. If you know someone who might fit that description, please let me know.  LITF has a complete sponsorship package that has been developed.  LITF is a not for profit organization and as such has the correct IRS code for donations.

Whether there is a sponsor or not, LITF is committed to keeping the team prize money in tact.  Our BTC team did well this past year, but we could do better.  There were times that we had 12 men scoring for the masters team and no men scoring for the open in the same race.  That is just poor planning.  We need 5 men to score for the Open or Masters Team.  There are only four women needed for the women’s Open and Masters.  If more than five master men (over the age of 40) show up for a race, the five fastest men can run for the masters and the rest can be stepped down to the open category.  Who the five fastest men are at any given race needs to be determined.  Sometimes a guy will come to a race but he has just gotten over the flu or an injury and does not want to run all out.  Fine, that person would be stepped down to the open division.  There is also the senior division which is runners over age 60.  Senior men who are fast like Joe, Jose, Mike, Warren and Charlie can often step down and score for the open team or the masters team as needed.  All that needs to be done is a little organization.  For the races I attend, which would be most of the races in the spring and the fall, I need to know who is at the race so I can figure who will run on which team.  Last year I dropped out of the Mustang race because I was not feeling well and the only other woman from the club that I saw was Helma.  Since we did not have a team, I bailed after the first mile.  Had I known that there were other women BTC runners in the race, I would have jogged the race and we would have at least scored a team place.

Since everyone has to pick up his/her running number anyway, all I am asking is that you come over to the LITF table and tell me that you are running the race.  For those races when I am not around-from May through August, I have asked for someone to help out.  Sue Nesbihal Cordero has done it in the past.  Sue could use some help, since she has trouble seeing, she might not see you as you enter the registration area.  If I could get two other people to help out with the setting of the teams, one to help me in the spring and fall and one to help sue in the summer, then we should do well at the races.  It would be nice if the two other people are from the men’s team.  Often the men will be warming up and see other men from the club also warming up and that is helpful. At the Kings Park race, Sue and I will both be away for the USATF Nationals, someone is needed to organize the teams.  Another helpful way to get the teams organized is for the members just to call the day before the race and say I am running tomorrow and lever your name and age.  Most people should know by the day before a race whether they are going to run.  When you call; 979-8445 you can also mention if you plan to run hard or just do the race for fun.  Again that helps to determine what team you are on.  Thanks in advance for your cooperation.  Please plan to run at least 2 races for BTC this year.  If everyone did that, we’d have full rosters.
