Youth Highlight

Today would have been a day to make any BTC member proud. At Sunken Meadow, LITF held its Youth Junior Olympic Cross Country Qualifiers. There were a number of cross country races staged for Bantam, Midget, Youth, and Young M/W divisions. Like the masters level, our young children also compete in age group divisions. What would have made BTC members proud was to see the number of young children running under the BTC singlet. There were 8 children who ran for BTC. In the Bantam division there were three: Shiseido Robinson (9th), Marcello Watson (5th) and Brandon Robinson (8th). In the Midget division: Sara DiCandia (12th), Michael Krummenacker (5th)and Shaquille Henry (11th). In the youth division: Naomi Strauss came in first in the race and Meline Basant (5th). As in the masters and open division, running cross country is not a question of time but place in the race. As such, our young athletes did quite well. Joe Cordero as an LITF official and myself were on hand to cheer our BTC runners on to victory. In addition to Joe and myself, Ernie and the parents of the young athletes were all on hand to cheer our "kids' onto the finish line. All of our athletes are eligible to go on to Rhode Island to compete in the Regional Youth Cross Country Championships. We wish them well and good running on their trip to RI. Hopefully at the regionals they all will have their BTC singlets. Once the cross country season ends these children plan to continue running and competing by running and jumping in the upcoming indoor track and field season. I hope some of the open and master members will also show up at SCC and not only cheer our young members on, but also be a role model for our children by running in some of the races. See you all on the track in January
